Our First Space Derby

Last week was our first scout space derby and we had a lot of fun. We can't wait for the next derby to build something new.

Ethan decided what he wanted on his rocket and Matthew and I helped him put it together. It was a lot of fun for all of us.

Summertime = more fun time

I wanted to prepare ahead for all the "I'm bored" comments, so I stocked up on craft projects. They have lots of great craft kid projects for a dollar at Michaels.

With all the rain this week, we decided to get out our craft projects.

Instead of the craft kits, Kalin asked me to buy this wood block and paint from our local craft store. Mostly because her brother had a block and she wanted one too.

She just wanted to paint the block pink and purple, but she's lucky enough to have a mom with a craft room full of eye candy that doesn't get used enough.

We pulled out the ric rac, stamps, buttons, flowers and of course, some bling and this is what she came up with...

I just love it when they use their creativity and make something beautiful! She had me take a picture of each side of the block, but you get the idea.

Ethan loves to work with these pom pom/pipe cleaner kits and they were only $1 at Michaels. The kit makes something like 5 animals.

I helped with the glue gun 'cause you know how that glue gets everywhere and you get burned no matter how hard you try not to.

And Pond Pal #2, Mr. Snake. Ethan actually told me what type of snake it was, 'cause he knows those kinds of things, but his "not so book smart" mom already forgot what that was :)

I had to get in on the action too. This is a magnet board I've been meaning to finish now for over a year--oops! I always start things and they sit around waiting to be finished. I should set that as my new goal--finish all started projects!!!! I'll have to show you the finished product when I get to that :)

Is it really June?

I'm so glad that I finished mowing the front lawn before the thunder and big rain drops started!!

I think this San Diego girl is starting to get weather depression!! j/k

The best thing about these cupcakes is the Ganache in the middle!!!

They were all bound to be LOVERS OF CHOCOLATE!!! What can I say?

Kindergarten Graduation

Woohoo, it's graduation time.

It was so fun to go to Kalin's graduation last week and it was fun to listen to her class sing all their favorite songs!
She got her diploma and a really cool DVD that her teacher put together.

Yummy Goodness

So I made mention on facebook to the best roll recipe I've ever had and I thought I'd share it here since I couldn't leave it as an update on facebook :) This recipe was given to me by a friend in Albuquerque and it's originally from our old Bishop's wife Jeni.

It was a good thing I made these rolls for someone else and they didn't stick around my house. Otherwise I would have eaten them all by now.

**Notice the slim fast in the back ground. I thought that was pretty ironic! Those rolls would have been much yummier, hence, the reason for the slim fast in the first place :)

You can make the recipe as follows or you can take the easy route like I do and throw all the ingredients in the bread maker and set it to the dough setting. I'm not one for kneading and my bread maker makes the best dough, so why not! Hope you enjoy.

Jeni’s Rolls

· 1 cup warm water
· 1 Tablespoon quick rising yeast
· 1 Tablespoon sugar

Combine above ingredients and set aside.

· 3 eggs
· ½ cup sugar
· ½ cup melted butter or margarine

Mix the eggs and sugar. Add the melted butter and yeast mixture. Mix until combined.

· 4 cups flour
· ¾ tsp. salt

Add the flour and salt. Knead. Put a dishtowel over the bowl and let rise in a warm place for 1 ½ hours or until doubled.

Knead again adding ½-1 cup additional flour (add the flour until dough stops sticking to the sides of the mixing bowl. No more then 1 cup.)

Divide into two balls of dough and roll each ball into a large circle. Cut circles into fourths—like a pie. Cut each fourth into three equal triangles. You will have 12 triangles. Roll each triangle from the big end to the point into a crescent roll.

Spray two cookie sheets with cooking spray. Put a dozen rolls on each cookie sheet. Gently cover with kitchen towels and let rise in a warm place for 1 ½ hours more or until rolls double in size.

Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes or until golden. Brush with melted butter or margarine.
